I agree with all of that about last year. I was definitely in the group who wanted to see what someone else could do so we could all find out if the offensive struggles were QB problems or scheme problems. I think Wolford showed that he brought a different energy and threat of getting the ball downfield. His legs, in the short term, were also a weapon the Rams hadn't had at QB in a while but as someone pointed out, against AZ that worked. Against SEA, they clobbered him.
As an unknown, Wolford was able to take advantage of a ho-hum AZ defense but I think his limitations were all too obvious against a prepared SEA team. I'm not rooting against him and I don't think I know more than McVay so hopefully he's the next Drew Brees. Hell, I'd be happy with the next Jeff Garcia or Jon Kitna as our backup.
But those guys stand out for a reason. I'm not sure Wolford has the same abilities. IMO, he hasn't shown himself to be a viable backup yet. If he can't stay on the field or even get on the field, that's a problem. And that's all before we even get to what he can actually do on the field, which is another potential problem. I have not seen enough to feel confident that if a defense forces Wolford to stand in the pocket and beat them through the air, that he could get it done.
