Jared Goff is an OK starting NFL QB... I think he's settled into an Andy Dalton kind of career. But it's not like he's a newbie to the league. He's had good coaching, and was surrounded by a good team.
To compare Goff and Brees? There is no comparison. And things sure as heck aren't going to get better for him on a bad, rebuilding team in Detroit this year.
But, what's there to lose by your QB coach saying such things. Kind of par for the course. Trust your eyes, not the nice words of coaches.
Brees is a first ballot Hall of Famer.Goff will get a free reboot (mulligan) based on their comparable first 5 seasons in the NFL.
Brees first 5 seasons 2001 through 2005 (5 seasons)Games played 58, Record 30-28-0, Attempts 1,809, Comp 1,125, Comp% 62.2, YDS 12,348, TD's 80, INT 53, YPA 6.8, Rating 84.9
Goff's first 5 seasons 2016 through 2020 (5 seasons)Games played 69, Record 42-27-0, Attempts 2,421, Comp 1,536, Comp% 63.4, YDS 18,171, TD's 107, INT 55, YPA 7.5, Rating 91.5
Some of these stat comparisons are clearly skewed because of the passing game rule changes from when Brees was rookie in 2001 vs when Goff was a rookie in 2016.
Brees is first ballot hall of famer and Goff has a long way to go to mentioned in the same breath.
It is interesting to compare their first 5 seasons even if the rule changes have favored today's modern day QB's.
