This type of injury is tough to recover from quickly for two reasons.
The very nature of the tear is often in a location without a good blood flow. Blood supply is incredibly important, because it's the commerce that brings in everything the injured tissue needs to repair itself, and transports away all the debris. The better the blood flow, the quicker and more thorough the healing.
More importantly, is the recovery between Cam Akers's ears. Nobody that hears and feels the pop that accompanies an Achilles Tendon tear trusts that ankle again. Because every leg movement depends on that part of the body, and the fact that so little can be done to reinforce the calf to heel area during a football game, everything that happens after casts come off and Akers is cleared to walk again must be relearned.
That takes time. A lot of time.
