Not in every game, obviously... and as far as stats he's up there... but in those critical gotta have a 1st situation it just seems to me he could have been used more. I think the 'jet sweeps' cut into his equal value at routes beyond the LOS. - JamesJM
I would agree with the under-utilization sentiments. But I think that was more of a "3rd & Kupp" situation with Goff. I suspect that Stafford will be better able to process things (both pre and post-snap) to find the best receiver option on those "gotta have it" down and distance situations.
You want the statistical truth from 2020?
Some folk tend to hyperbolize Goff's issues in 2020. As a matter of fact he was better on 3rd and medium, 3rd and short, and in the redzone than Stafford. All these overstated things about "processing" aside.
Though Stafford, being a veteran of his caliber, is going to have things a 5th year qb doesn't. Heck 13 year Stafford is better than 5th year Stafford, for that matter.
Now I always have to add the caveat because it's a loaded issue. I like Stafford, the trade is fine with me because Stafford was the result of it, and I expect good things from Stafford. But as an "historian" I am not aboard with a lot of the hyperbole that flies around Goff. He was inconsistent in 2020, which some people are taking as inherently deficient and BAD like Wentz was bad. I like Stafford but I like accuracy in assessment too.
