More Sirius NFL stuff.
While the evidence is anecdotal and not statistical, it certainly seems that trading elite players for draft picks is a loser for the team getting the draft picks.
Unless that team is awfully lucky, and unless they are getting VERY early picks (top 7 or 8), the odds are that they are never going to get any elite players out of it.
So often it is the team trading the player away that has been sort of forced into it. Either the player making it clear that they are never playing for that team again (Watson, Rogers), or that a threat not to plus a demanding a new record breaking salary.
The Stafford's, Rogers', Ramsey's (and hypothetically A.D.'s) and so on don't come along very often. And the odds of getting another one in the draft are small. Sure, it can happen. But you are literally trading a bird in the hand for 2 in the bush.
I suppose getting some 1st round picks (even late 1st) is better than being left holding an empty bag. And all those picks might look good on paper, but they may as well be poker chips and you're placing bets.
