Let’s see...
Belichick stays put at 15 and Mac Jones falls into his lap.
Lynch/Shanahan swap 1sts in ‘21 plus give up two future 1sts plus a 3rd this year for... Trey Lance?
Let that sink in for just a moment. I’ve gotta believe that Lynch/Shanny had a ‘What were we thinking’ moment back when they finalized the trade up to #3 overall.
Not a good look for Lynch/Shanny at this moment, is it? Damn!
Originally IMO, they might have thought the Jets might not take Wilson and they liked Jones, but when they put it under a microscope they took the kid with the higher ceiling and the better athlete. Now, they can win with Garoppolo and retrieve some draft capital, if he has a good year and stays healthy.
Quite frankly I fear Lance more than I did Jones, but that's just me, hopefully, Lance is as good as Mitch Trubisky, but IMO, Kyle Shanahan is a true QB Whisperer....Hope I'm wrong.
Yeah, Lance COULD become elite one day, although it might take a few years at a minimum.
But my point is that 49ers overreached. A team gives up three 1sts and a 3rd for a #1 overall OR a proven QB like a Stafford, Wilson, or Rodgers type talent. But certainly NOT for a Trey Lance with such a limited resume. Nothing against Lance but it looks like Lynch/Shanny leaped before they looked when making the trade in an overreaction to the Rams acquiring Stafford.
Rams are looking like grownups in their QB move while 49ers are looking like kindergartners.
This move could set the 49ers back for years and cost Lynch his job unless Lance really blossoms quickly. Looking like a fubar of a trade to #3 overall to me.
