The choice - like anything in life - is what are you willing to pay for what you want? And then, is it available?

Your "basic" question lacks context and is a false choice. For example, how about Mahomes instead? I would rather have Mahomes than either one of those guys. Let's get him.

Wait! KC won't part with him? Let's see. How about Aaron Donald, 25 1sts, a billion dollars and you'll build a brand new stadium for the chiefs? I bet they'd go for that.

Too much for the Rams you say?

That's what happened the first time the Rams reached out to GB. Green Bay wanted too much. Not that much of course, as I was using Mahomes as an example, but more than the Rams were willing to pay for Rodgers. So in their pursuit of Rodgers, the Rams were left with a choice.

1. Wait for GB to accept less than what they wanted.
2. Increase their offer for Rodgers.
3. Move on.

(And of course choices #1 & 2 might be moot if Rodgers doesn't want to play for the Rams, which means the Rams had no choice at all.)

#1 is you are waiting and hoping to convince someone who already turned you down to change their mind (whether it be the team or the Q. And waiting would have cost you your shot at Stafford. And kept Goff on the team to continue a reportedly irreparable situation.

#2 The Rams decided they weren't going to go any higher. Just for fun, I asked you how high you would go and you didn't have an answer. So you would wait to see the 49ers offer first? That may not be a possibility. They might just accept the 49ers offer. Or the Rams couldn't match or beat the 49ers offer anyway, so #2 might not even be a viable option.

Clearly the Rams went for #3. Move on.
