The Rams DID have a choice between Stafford and Rodgers. And it appears as though they made their first pitch to Green Bay (which was rejected). But knowing that neither Stafford or the Lions were inclined to draw things out, the Rams quickly pivoted to negotiating with Detroit (who took the bait).
I brought Donald into the discussion because it's clear that Green Bay clearly didn't like the Rams offer which likely included the same/similar draft picks we gave to Detroit, along with Goff. What else could've possibly gotten the Packers to bite on a deal - include Donald in the mix? I mean...that's the only thing that I can think of that would get Green Bay to bargain in good faith. But that might have been too steep for the Rams who are in no better position to deal for Rodgers today than they were in February.
