And by that, I mean as long as I am supplying a solid list to other fans that is expansive as possible and at the same time removing the bloat, then I am satisfied.
I do 4 things for the draft:
3 Mock drafts
1 - top ten by position lists offense and defense
1 Big Board - typically 200 players plus or minus
1 Rams Stacked Board
I feel like 200 on a big board is plenty, because that gets you into the 6th round, and after years of this, I have noticed rounds 6 and 7 are a total crap shoot. So why spend time on something I'll never get remotely close to correct on when I can spend time on the Rams Stacked Board?
I am on year 4 of the Vertically Stacked Board, and I do that only because the board wanted me too, so I researched how stacked boards work and I came to the understanding its around 100 players, last year I did 150, this year I did 115 with a bonus 10.
So if the Rams pick 50%-66% of the guys on my big board, I feel I did a good job. I thought last year nailing their first 6 picks was pretty good. And considering 2 of the last 3 never made the roster, I feel like I nailed 6 of 7.
I am not privy to the Rams preferences, I have little information on medicals, very little info on red flags or how a prospect interviewed. I have no idea on what the Rams priorities are going into the draft, I have no idea what the new DC Morris prefers or the new OL coach Carberry, and I don't watch near the film that a literal army of scouts and advanced analytics people go through. So, for me, it gets murky after the top 200. And on the stacked board, I need to be a little more open minded.
Also, like I said, a typical stacked board is 100 players, could I get my list down to 75? Sure, but then its not a true stacked board.
That said if you want me to shave it down take these names off:
1-13. I'd love to leave Tryon, Radunz, Samuel Jr and Humphrey on it. But they are gone.
Jamar Johnson, Jevon Holland and Richie Grant - they won't go S in round 2, unless they are clearly BPA and they cant trade back
Rondale Moore and Nico Collins - they won't go WR in round 2 either
Freiermuth & Jordan - with so many holes, I just cannot see a TE in round 2
Dickerson - injuries plus lack of scheme fit removes him
Dayo Odeyingbo - his torn achilles removes him, although he is a perfect fit as a 34 end.
Simi Fehoko - If it wasn't for Carberry, he wouldn't make the list, even though I love him for the Rams
Melifonwu and St. Juste - I don't see anything that makes me believe the Rams are drafting a 6'-2" plus CB
Thats 25, right there. And if I really wanted to shave it down, remove all the remaining TEs and S. I just don't see that position. Thats roughly 9 or 10 more.
But again, I'd rather be heavy and thorough than picky and light to improve my hit rate.
