He's a stout dude and he's big and rangy. That's the way I like my edge types too, lengthy and strong. And he's not the only one. Weaver is a stout edge too. Those types could immediately help us in the rotation at either 5T or blindside edge.
If you go back to the 9er game we lost to a backup QB... That was the game where McVay lost it. It's where he decided Goff was not good enough. It's probably also where he realized we're still too weak up front to snuff out the best run games. As good as our defense was the achilles heel was their strength up front. We had a pass rush front who were doing the job of stuffing the run IMO.
So I could be WAY off here. But I think that's a big priority, to get more stout up front. And they let both Brock and Fox go who were significant roster losses. Worst thing too is as you point out the 5T aren't great in this draft. Bunch of stubby options who are probably better at 3T. So yeah I don't know what they're thinking. Just seems to me maybe a conversion project is the way they lean, especially when it provides an option for moving around as well. Tryon could rotate all over for us depth-wise year one if they take him and boost our rush packages on passing downs.
Oh and re: your last list of guys I am with you. Radunz in particular I love. I think he is a first round OT.
