#1. Yes you can throw completions on third and long without a long dropback and that's what they did. However that's also the problem. A short dropback generally means a shorter pass and not a first down. Hence the issues with the play calling. The question is why those shorter developing plays were called more often than not. You would like everyone to believe it has nothing to do with Goff. While I was of a similar opinion at the end of the season it seems pretty clear that mcvay did not.
#2. Long series of deep dropbacks? I assume that means more than 1 deep dropback in a row but it's unclear how you define it. Nevertheless, any time a team becomes 1 dimensional (i.e., more than 1 deep dropback) execution becomes more difficult for obvious reasons. Im not sure how such a situation is unique to the rams.
#3. Sure. Its hypothetical.
#4. So it's your argument that the oline wad for the most part good in 2020 but at the same time blame the oline for not consistently protecting the qb and thats not inconsistent? Seems to me that you are trying awfully hard to deflect criticism away from this hypothetical qb.
You want to nitpick small stuff. I don't particularly care.
For one thing, it's not a real discussion. You misconstrued or misrepresented everything I said. And it keeps happening. Here, #4 has absolutely nothing to do with anything I actually said. For one I didn't blame the OL for just not consistently protecting the qb (which in fact it didn't) -- it also crashed in other areas too. Remember all the failed goal line downs at the end of the season? In 2 games. Does a good OL do that?
You're also motive hunting. You want to blame the qb for everything (your right), and because I don't you just have to argue, AND reduce everything to being an old fight over the former qb. I don't care if you agree with me--so much so that there's nothing to debate. Plus it's way too specific to a poster. I agree with Leoram and you don't respond to him. Yet we're saying similar things.
I don't see a real conversation in this. In fact that's the message I sent the admins.
Have a good day, discuss the Rams. Leave Goff fights to the past. I agree with Leoram because we both worry about OL issues with STAFFORD.
