I know this is the Rams' board, but as one of our own is now running Detroit, I was interested in how they will they play this draft.
If I am Brad Holmes and there are one or two QBs available at 7, I am putting the pick up on the market. A drop to 9 means only one other non QB is taken before they pick again. The top non QBs are Pitts, two LTs and 3 WRs. With QBs at 1-3 and 7, then four of the top other players are gone and they still get one of those top offensive players plus add a 3 or 4. If they want the best shot at the top QB next year, then they should drop down to NE (15), Washington (19) or Chicago (20) and get at least one of those teams' 1 from next year plus extra picks this year or in 22. If they get another 1 in 22, then they would have 3 1s (their own, ours, and whoever's they traded with) in 22 and at least 2 #1s in 23. They could easily get to the #1 pick with that much ammo. In 22 they will also have a comp 5, a comp 6, and two conditional 7th rounders (depends on those trades' conditions being met). So I think if Detroit is thinking long term, trading #7 is the way to go.
