I rewatched the KC vs. LA game of the century and Goff was simply chucking it fearlessly.
In the past couple of years (last year especially) he was indeed gun shy. Tentative, little anticipation, etc. How much of that was his fault? Hard to dole out percentages. But without doubt he was not the same guy for 2019 and 2020 as we saw in the previous 2 years.
Perhaps he can gain back some of that magic. But he is NOT a QB that elevates a team; he needs help. That's not a bad thing. All but the HOF QBs need help. But as some talking head posted on NFL.com he's not likely to get the help he needs, and therefore he's not likely to get better in Detroit. At least not in 2021.
Stafford on the other hand has just made a soft landing into a far better situation than he's ever known. Provided the Oline does OK, he'll do great.
Goff was not shy about slinging the ball around in the 2019 season.
in 2019 he had a career high in attempts and for most of the season it appeared he did his best to carry the team with his arm. Sadly he was not able to do it.
In 2020 I agree with your insights 100%. For what ever the reasons were, Goff was no where near the fearless gunslinger he was the prior 2 seasons.
