Higher education (post high school) does one thing: Contrary to the "popular" belief by some (i.e. indoctrination) it does force upon one critical analysis. Often our belief system does not match what a genuine critical analysis will show. And where does that type of analysis come from. Reading that's required in order to pass a course. Most higher learning classes today also require independent research by the student as well-separate and apart from assigned reading. You may not like where the facts and analysis take you but you at least know how you got there.
