At this point, I'm losing most of my confidence in this Rams team from a team-building perspective. They draft well and they coach well (I know, that sounds like it'd be enough ;-D), but they seem to have a dangerous proclivity towards impulsiveness / recklessness on the overall team strategy side.
First, I'll say that I do agree we've seen some impulsiveness and recklessness when it comes to team strategy. It's especially been evident in their handing out early extensions.
That said, this Floyd signing can't reasonably be included in that. Midway through the season Staley said that Floyd was the 3rd most important piece in his scheme behind AD and Ramsey.
Since that time I haven't wavered in my position that they will find a way to keep him. Maybe they can afford to lose the 4th or 5th most critical piece but you don't let the 3rd most important piece get away. That's like losing part of your foundation.
So from a team-building perspective, the coaches identified that Floyd was a critical must have. If we can't trust the coach who made our D #1 and who's scheme we're still running, I don't know what to tell you. But it's clear that his resigning was not impulsive or reckless. Floyd has long been part of the plan.
