I don't know that Floyd had a better year than Fowler had the year before, and I suspect the Falcons feel more than a little let-down by Fowler's performance (although it lines up super well with his career numbers).
It seems plausible (certain?) that Donald is tending to create unique opportunities for Edge Rushers. They appear better than their career average when on our team. If that's true (and it seems reasonable that it would be), why pay a premium to fill a slot any edge rusher should already crave (if only to re-build their future value?)
I think John Johnson (now departed) and Darious Williams (not currently signed long-term) were far better players and were far more instrumental to our team's success this past year than Floyd, and we should have prioritized keeping both of them in-house long-term.
At this point, I'm losing most of my confidence in this Rams team from a team-building perspective. They draft well and they coach well (I know, that sounds like it'd be enough ;-D), but they seem to have a dangerous proclivity towards impulsiveness / recklessness on the overall team strategy side.
Idk. Just my take.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and you might very well be correct that the Rams overvalued Floyd with their desperate need for edge rushers this coming season.
Anyone that says you're crazy is being biased.
I'm in the other camp that believes Floyd was worth every penny and I think he will be on the Rams the next 2 seasons and perform well.
Nobody knows for sure. Free agency is a lot of guessing and projecting.
I would've done this contract extension for Floyd in a hot second but it could blow up in their face. I don't believe it will but I get the concerns of those that were against it.
I have faith that the Rams will be able to cut him after the second year of his contract extension without a terrible cap hit.
I can't be for sure on this speculation so like many others on this board, I'm waiting for all the details of how his contract was structured.
A lot of us are waiting for the juicy details of Floyd's contract breakdown
