Deebo Samuel takes shot at Rams offense, not worried about Stafford addition

The Los Angeles Rams made the biggest splash of the offseason when they agreed to trade Jared Goff and three draft picks to the Detroit Lions for Matthew Stafford. The move doesn’t worry 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel, however, as he and San Francisco look for their third straight sweep of the Rams.
Samuel was recently on the “21st & Prime” podcast with Deion Sanders and Jamie Dukes, and he brushed off the idea that the Rams are going to be contenders again after Dukes mentioned them. He says the Rams try to do what San Francisco does on offense, but they’re unable to, so he’s not concerned.
“I ain’t lost to them in two years,” Samuel said, via 49ers Webzone. “I ain’t lost to the Rams in two years, so it is what it is. They try to do what we do, but they can’t do it like we do it, you feel what I’m sayin’?”
Samuel didn’t stop there, though. He took a shot at the Rams offense as a whole, pointing out that they often run play-action passes and run underneath routes, rather than dropping back and throwing it downfield.
To a point, Samuel is right: The Rams do love play action and they didn’t throw it downfield last season. But that will change with Stafford, who’s one of the more aggressive QBs in the NFL.
“The Rams want to play action all game,” Samuel continued. “They ain’t dropping back and letting the ball go. They can’t do it. They want to play action, get their little down flats, the little flat routes all game, just let their people run. You ain’t gonna win like that.”
The Rams offense will surely open up with Stafford under center, likely taking more shots down the field to his wide receivers – something Goff rarely did last season. And even though they’ve lost four straight to the 49ers, they look like the team to beat in the NFC West next season.
