it would help the Rams be more competitive and chances of going all the way!
The Tom Brady Model
If Stafford was 5 years older I could get on board with your 5 year Tom Brady model logic.
Stafford just got a mega million dollar raise by default (based on the recent Prescott contract numbers)
Stafford's agent knows the Rams have to sign him to an extension for cap relief and they will have to make him a top 7 paid player at all costs because they traded 2 future 1st round picks for him.
When the Rams traded for Ramsey and gave up 2 first round picks they knew they were going to have to pay him top dollar to keep him around long term. The Rams gave it to him without blinking.
They had no choice...If the Rams didn't give Ramsey his ginormous contract extension they would've been a NFL laughing stock after investing 2 first round picks to get him.
Now the Rams have to give Stafford an extension for at least another 3, 4 or even 5 years. If they decide to play hardball with him, they will get nowhere with that stance.
Stafford's agent is laughing all the way to the bank after the Cowboys signed Dak to his mega buck historical contract extension.
Stafford is top level and the Rams are going to pay him what the market value is. Dak just reset the market and Stafford will get a bigger contract than than Dak got.
Matthew Stafford will be one of the top 3 highest paid players in the NFL before the start of the 2021 season.
I'm expecting his extension will free up the Rams salary cap over the next 2 seasons.
I believe the Rams get a long term deal for him, but his cap it over the net 3 years will hide some of his real worth to the NFL even as a retired player.
