The poster I was responding to stated, "...UNLESS the OLine improves, the offense will not. Stafford can't win from his backside."

It looks to me like there's an implication there that if the OL stayed as is, Stafford would spend a lot of time on his backside. To be on his backside he has to be sacked or at least pressured. Thus, I interpret his statement above as a narrative that the OL as is, gives up lots of sacks and pressures.

Pointing out that the OL as is doesn't give up lots of sacks and pressures directly counters that narrative.

If you don't like PFF, how about PFR?

Per PFR, Goff was (among starting QBs):

Sacked the 7th fewest times
Goff had the 11th most time in the pocket despite being blitzed the 5th most in the league
Tied for 7th for least number of QB hurries
10th in pressure percentage despite being blitzed the 5th most in the league

Since Goff didn't spend much time on his backside with the current OL, I maintain that Stafford won't either.

Okay.

But it could be that he does. End up on his back.

He was sacked at a high rate last year (6.7%). He was sacked 38 times. My point stands when it comes to this--sacks are never solely on the OL. They are on the qb too.

We do know that the Rams OL as is was dominated in some games. We saw that happen. I don't know why you won't factor that in and account for it, but there were teams that banged that OL up.

And Stafford did not always do well in games where he was pressured 7 or more times. In the 7 games where he was pressured 7 or more times he threw 6 of his 10 INTs. That means he threw the other 4 INTs in the other 8 games he played in. (He played 15, he went out in one game). In contrast Rams qbs were pressured 7 or more times in 13 total games counting the post-season. Stafford got sacked more while getting pressured only 11 more times than Rams qbs.

Stafford just takes more sacks in ratio to pressures than Rams qbs did.

Either way the Rams OL has to be more consistent. It can't get dominated the way it did in the games where it did.

BTW Goff was better against the blitz than Stafford too. Goff's qb rating when blitzed was 101.0 and he threw for 65.6% completions when blitzed. Stafford's qb rating when blitzed was 86.1 and he threw for 60% completions when blitzed.

So yes the OL is an issue and so is Stafford taking sacks and handling being blitzed. Those are real issues.

Killer issues? Losing season issues? Don't even bother to suit up issues? No...but I am with those who think you don't maximize this offense to its full potential unless you address the OL.
