This should come as no surprise. The Rams are trying to open up cap space and by trading Havenstein, the team would save $7.8M. Havenstein would make sense for the Bengals who are coached by former Rams offensive coordinator Zac Taylor. The Bengals could us offensive line help. If the Ravens trade Orlando Brown, that is a team that would also make sense as a suitor for Havenstein.
If the Rams trade Havenstein, it would obviously leave a hole at right tackle. However, the Rams actually have some depth at the position. Bobby Evans played right tackle in Havenstein’s place in 2019 and would make sense as an obvious replacement. The Rams drafted Evans in 2018 and he’s been a solid depth piece that could move into a starting role.
It’ll be interesting to see what kind of price the Rams could get for Havenstein. A fourth or fifth round pick would seem like a realistic return for the 29 year old tackle.
Trading Havenstein would be the first step in opening up cap space this offseason. The Rams are $25M over the cap and will need to restructure contracts and potentially have some cap casualties in order to get under. Havenstein likely could be one of those casualties.
