McVay was clear that a deep threat to stretch the field vertically was missing this year. So I'm not at all sure that a deep threat WR is a back burner item.
As I've said: I see the 2 front burner positions as Center and deep threat WR.
Morris may ask for a better MLB (since he is sort of Tampa 2 oriented).
What I think we'll see is the Rams trying for a speedy WR that is also a very good all purpose return guy. That is, a playmaker that can contribute in a number of ways because I think that deep threat WR is probably only going to get perhaps 20 snaps per game at most. So STs is going to be part of his role unless they go for someone like AJ Green.
Several things, Rock.
First, yes, McVay did say that the lack of a deep threat was missing this year. But was that because no Ram WR could get open deep, or because Goff was refusing to throw deep? I kinda suspect it was more of the latter. Sure won’t be a problem with Stafford at QB.
Second, we just see top offseason need priorities differently, I guess. I see C as 1a and Edge as 1b and 1c. All 3 WAY before a vertical WR. In fact, all 3 will be our likely top 3 picks unless addressed via FA or trade. IMO, of course.
Third, I do agree with your take on a ‘versatile WR’ that could be effective on returns, probably as a mid rounder or later. But I do NOT see an expensive FA vet being the choice as a 3rd or 4th WR.
