Houston has become the new "old" New Orleans Aint's. Dumb management. Bad luck. The epitome of instability. But NOLA got one thing right. They got Archie Manning and stuck with him no matter what.
Houston has simply made some of the most horrible management choices over the last few years. But, they do have some good players and Watson is the premier player on the team. Watson is the face of the team. If they were to let him go, no matter the haul, you'd have fan rebellion and I imagine that locker room would implode.
Watson may take it to the wall. But the cost in money to him would be huge and it's hard to imagine that a player would forfeit millions to get his way. Watson has no real leverage. Heck it was just a few months ago that he signed a huge new contract. Not reporting would be very expensive because of the fines involved and the loss of game checks. I imagine it would also be expensive for Houston to trade him.
Houston is not going to budge because they don't have to. At least for 2021 Watson will nearly certainly remain a Texan.....whether he's suited up or sitting at home on his couch. About the only way they might even consider it is if the Jags offered their 1st pick and then some for Watson. And the Jags aren't going to trade away the chance to draft Trevor Lawrence and pay him a fraction for the next several years of what Watson is making .
There is simply no scenario I can think of that Houston would relent. There just aren't enough draft picks and not enough really good players that another team would offer. It would have to far exceed what the Rams paid for Stafford.
