As far as WRs go, I'm not a talent evaluator like you are but man I do not like the smurf WRs. Give me a guy like Megatron or DK Metcalf that has the speed AND the size AND the attitude on the outside. But I do agree we need more team speed. Our offense looked slow this past season.
.
Not a huge smurf WR fan myself. The issue in the NFL is not so much the height of the WR but more of the weight and catch radius. If you are 6' and 178 lbs you are not surviving on the outside.
If you are 5'-9" and 205 lbs, you can survive out there because you are stronger and fight for your release. Slots usually get a free release, thats why your smaller, slight framed WRs go into the slot. On the outside you can see press. Ramsey would destroy a 180 lb WR with his press coverage.
Anyhow, off my rant and onto my point:
There are just a ton of small, electric WRs out there this year:
Waddle 5'-10"
Moore 5'-9"
Eskridge 5'-9"
Felton 5'-8.5"
Rogers 5'-9.5"
Shi Smith 5'-10"
Atwell 5'-9"
Cade Johnson 5'-10"
Dardon 5'-9"
Stevenson 5'-10"
All draftable. Waddle is a top 3 WR, Moore is a late first to mid 2nd. The next 3 or 4 are 2nd and 3rd rounders, the last few are day 3.
Now how many Megatron/Metcalf Wrs are in this draft?
...
That many. None.
Calvin Johnson was 6'-5" 239 lbs and and ran a 4.38 at the combine
Metcalf was 6'-3 3/8" 228 lbs and ran a 4.33
You might see some 4.3s at pro days. but not from anyone that size. They are just that rare. Thats why I had Metcalf so much higher than he was drafted. You cannot coach up or teach that size/speed/strength trifecta.
I'd suggest you look at:
Nico Collins 6'-4 3/8" and 215 lbs at the combine. He said himself that he ran a 4.45 this winter. Took the season off, and was under used at Michigan so he is a 2nd rounder. He's as close as you'll get. Not sure he gets to 57, but if thats your guy, move up.
Some other names:
Simi Fehoko Stanford - 6'-4" 227 lbs I think he runs in that 4.5 range, but has good straight line speed. Middle round kid.
Jonathan Adams Jr. - Ark. St. - 6'-3" 215 lbs I think he is a upper 4.5s low 4.6 range as far as 40 time. Day 3
Warren Jackson Colorado 6'-5" 219 lbs. I think a 4.5 something would be a great time for him. day 3
Tamorrion Terry FSU 6'-4" and a lean 205 lbs. - probably a 4.5 guy. I think he is a late day 2 guy, early day 3.
