But this thing with Goff wasn’t. Everybody says it was a surprise and could have and should have been handled more diplomatically.

So, here’s the question. Why do you suppose this one was so different? Why did McVay behave so out of character?

There’s gotta be a reason and I’d love to know what it is.

McVay was not the main one in being undiplomatic publicly--to me that was Snead, who mishandled the qb questions in his presser. As a Rams fan who wants to take pride in the organization, I was embarassed by that.

In terms of McVay--I don't put the weight of public non-diplomatic behavior on him. I do think that he can fail to communicate, which is odd since he puts such a value on teaching. I have also seen signs for a long time that he can be impatiently irascible and isn't always even keeled or patiently thoughtful. I just don't think this one thing will bite him though--getting Stafford is good. I do think it's a coaching strength to help a player find his groove and to accent the player's strengths. But with Stafford, who is a very savvy veteran, you don't need McVay to be like that...Stafford is enough of a veteran that he can be more of a partner.
