Here’s Mackeyser...
I keep coming back to why?
We have 4 solid years of exposure to McVay and Snead's thinking.
Have they EVER dogged a player or even unenthusiastically supported them and not praised them? Even Sam Sloman was praised as he missed kicks and lost his job.
So... WHAT HAPPENED that soured the org on Goff?
The only things I can think of that would sour McVay as much as he clearly soured is if Goff wasn't putting in the work.
Was he doing the 9-5 thing?
Was he partying?
Was he just not getting the adjustments/changes to the offense?
I dunno, but it clearly got SO BAD that we saw something we hadn't seen in 4 years. And this year we went through 3 different kickers which is enough to drive any HC to drink. Nary an unkind word.
I still think highly of Goff and wish him the best. I really do. And I feel the loss of this trade because there was such potential there. I mean I just got my 6 year old granddaughter a Goff jersey for Xmas!
But in the end, it wasn't being realized and McVay is an aggressive HC intent on winning and he clearly so no path to victory by remaining with Goff.
We'll find out if it was a mistake or maybe Goff's future success required the move. I do feel pretty confident the more I read external evaluations of how players and league people feel about Stafford on the Rams that this was a much better move than I thought.
I said the move we made would be expensive and this one was, but the price included taking Goff off our hands (which needed to happen to trade for anyone) and they took his guarantees going forward and we got a QB that many are saying is perfect for the McVay offense.
All we can do is hope that the potential of this trade is realized and we see some Lombardis ahead of us!
