Here’s the issue with first rounders, 2 things:
1) You have to hit on them and, I think Snead is right, they have to be extra, extra special. If you draft a one, the term ‘bust’ slowly descends on them, and that weight crushes most players. (Exceptions do exist.)
2) Due to the salary cap, assuming you hit .1000 on your 1st round picks, you can only field about 5-6 and still field a team. So, if your team has those 5-6 extra special players, then your drafting 1s as a farm team for other teams to benefit from your coaching up young talent that leaves via free agency since the team drafting them cannot fit them under the cap.
