Here's my take.
McVay is pissed at Staley for leaving. He did not go and "find" his DC, give him the keys to the defense, only to have him for 1 season.
Staley gets HC gig, I get it. He hit the lottery and cashed his ticket as a HC.
Thus, the hire of Morris.
Morris will be here for at least 4-5 years, kind of like Phillips, as long as we are WINNING then you will be our DC. McVay obviously did not see our future DC on his staff, thus he went out and got a VETERAN Coach who will bring a few coaches with him.
McVay..."There, problem is solved. There's a staff in place for a few years and I can go concentrate on the OFFENSE and get us scoring points again. Morris can take care of the DEFENSE."
