But I also don't see this as a wholesale changes sort of offseason for the offense. One, because of the lower salary cap and Goff's contract they're simply limited. And two, some smaller changes could add up. Personnel-wise, to me those changes are upgrading at center, finding a speed WR4 and finding a good blocking TE. You could argue those are pretty minor changes but I think they would equate to opening up the passing game more and solidifying the running game even further. The Rams have found a really good RB in Akers. He could be a 1,300-yards guy in 2021 with those additions. And if you have that and the weapons the Rams have at WR and TE then you can do some good things.
Just summ thotz.
First I don't think center is enough. Even assuming AW comes back, you need a future LOT, and after this year I have doubts about Noteboom. And I don't think you get a consistently solid OL unless you also replace Hav. Though it's possible Hav's replacement is on the roster.
2nd I don't see Goff as the liability others do. He had 4 bad games and out of those, 2 especially bad games with 7 turnovers. I have a theory as to why those games had the big turnovers, but...that aside, in his other 15 games he had 10 turnovers, and in the last 6 games--all the games since the last bad turnover game--he had 3 INTs. That includes the playoffs and playing hurt. I think Goff's main "fix" is to stop trying to press when things aren't there--take the sack, slide when you run, bail on the play, throw it away, find the check down. Etc. A lot of which IMO he did start doing.
3rd I do see how a deep threat would help or a true #1 type elite WR who can do a lot more than get deep etc.
I agree about Akers but he seems to be more of a health risk than you would like.
Is the defense set? No. They had a problem showing up sometimes, or living up to their reps. If they had come to play in all of the following games Rams would have done better: Bills game, 1st SF game, Jets game, Packers game. The Jets game was so bad Orlovsky did a vid showing all the blown coverages.
