I don't understand why you would attempt those 2 plays from a time management reason. Take some time off the clock so if the Rams do score there is no time left for the Jets.
Even if the Rams score it's only a 1 point lead. It seems McVay sometimes loses focus under pressure. You don't always have to be the smartest guy in the room. Sometimes the KISS method is best?.
