In 2014....

Lions drafted Nate Freese in the seventh round this spring only to see that choice blow up in their face last month.

Freese, who beat out Giorgio Tavecchio for the kicking job, made just 3 of 7 field goals in three games and was released after he missed a 41-yarder against the Green Bay Packers.

Alex Henery replaced Freese, but he made just 1 of 5 field goals the last two weeks and was cut Monday, a day after he missed three kicks, including the potential game-winner in a 17-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Between Freese and Henery, the Lions have made just 4 of 12 field goals this year and 1 of 9 kicks from beyond 40 yards.

"We got to find a performer, that's basically what we have to get done in that area," Caldwell said Monday. "We've got to get a guy who's consistent under pressure and be able to put us points on the board, particularly after – in this league there's going to be close games, guys in that position's going to decide a number of games and we've got to make certain we get the right guy for us."
