I knew that by stating a fact that our defense is one of the top defenses in the league, that my observation of "lack of grit" would seem inconsistent. Perhaps I didn't articulate it well. I remember some of the great defenses of old, a few of which won SBs with average QBs: for example the Steelers (great Q
, Ravens (average Q
, and so forth. Their defenses were known to be brutal and tough and I think they intimidated their opponents. I don't think our D inspires that kind of fear in other teams.
I think if we were known to have a brutal D then I'd feel more confident in our SB caliber.

In terms of performance Goff is average this season. I looked at several sites and he was ranked in the middle of the pack or even slightly below.

All the reasons or excuses aside, at the end of the day a QB is what his record and stats say he is. That's one reason why McVay is so clearly superior to Fisher. McVay has fixed problems, built a stronger team, and delivered results. Does anybody disagree?
