That was a very nice post, thank you. It was impressive that you've watched all nine games to gather info.
Your criticism of Goff is definitely not Goff-bashing but fair and accurate. I'd think most would agree with you.
I think the Rams are a playoff caliber team but I don't think that at this point the Rams are a Super Bowl caliber team for these reasons:
1) Goff: I echo your Goff criticism. I like Goff a lot, and maybe I have a slightly higher opinion of him than you but I don't think that he has the chops to be a typical SB winning QB at this point in his career. I don't see him improving much more this year. It's possible of course but I think not probable.
2) Defense: Some teams have won the SB without having a great QB. Our defense is one of the best this year but I don't see the overall grit that I've seen on those SB teams who won with a average QB but top-quality defense. I'm probably in a minority here but I don't feel the level of fear from the Rams that past defensive DB winning teams brought.
3) Special Teams: Others have pointed out that our special teams have been very weak. It's unconscionable to me that McVay has allowed that problem to continue for as long as it has.
4) McVay: Other posters, and yourself, have pointed out that McVay's play-calling has been poor at times, or "unbalanced." He has a tendency to be too cute or tricksy. I'm actually surprised that at this point he hasn't caught on that his team is capable of playing smash-mouth football. Or perhaps he knows but he isn't playing to that strength. I honestly don't know and I'm making an assumption here. Fair enough.
I haven't forgotten that McVay is far superior to Fisher and I want him to stay with the Rams. Also, my respect and appreciation for McVay went up a notch after last week's game. He was all in and I respect that greatly.
