I think we need to be clear about what we're talking about too. Playcalling isn't the same thing as scheme. I think McVay's scheme is just fine. There are plenty of examples of plays that didn't work but had positive options available.
The predictability and frequency of plays called comes more into question for me. Against Miami, I, like many others, didn't so much have a problem with the pass plays themselves, but the play call of a pass instead of a run. It's difficult to criticize McVay too much since he's obviously on a different planet in terms of football knowledge and IQ compared to me and most other fans. But, it does seem that he gets a little too galaxy brained for his own good when KISS would work better.
I have never really thought of McVay in the same way I think of Chuckie Gruden being a QB killer but I guess the potential for that same type of thing is there. McVay has some really great stuff that may just be too complicated for it's own good. Every QB has limitations and McVay may be pushing Goff too far out of his comfort zone. I don't know for sure but I think we need to swing the pendulum back toward the running game a bit more and let Goff function more in a quality over quantity passing game.
I think we are seeing with Wilson what happens when TOO much is put on a QB's plate. It happens to most, even the best, if you go too far out of balance. Even Warner had to learn that lesson. It is just too rare to be successful when you are predictable and one dimensional.
