The problem is the
average fan loves to blame play calling. They see a play not work and it's the obvious thing they want to blame. No need to look deeper at who missed an assignment. No need to consider that the other team perhaps made a play. Go to any bar and you'll hear the beered up fan at the bar screaming and complaining about play calls. You never hear them complain about a play call that was successful either. Just the ones that don't work lol.
Only area where I'd criticize McVay's play calling is when it's third and forever and he runs a screen/auto-checkdown to prevent further failure on that particular drive. But it's hard to criticize that when he knows his players better than we do. In the game yesterday I was shaking my head on one of those, however his defense did hold and he won the game and that's what matters. Had he put Goff into a deep drop he may have converted it, or maybe it's a sack/fumble type result. Who knows. But the end result went McVay's way.
IMO right now McVay has some confidence issues with his offensive unit. And rightly so. They're not up to HIS standards. Not even talking the message board standards where people expect the GSoT and '85 Bears defense or they're not happy. Just McVay's standards. The guy is not happy with the offense but he's going to keep pushing and coaching guys up and hopefully this unit will start putting up the kind of offensive output they need to in order to pair with a very good defense to go all the way. We're flawed but you know what... Why not us.
