I, too, was painfully aware of the lack of pressure on Wentz, particularly from both edge positions. But I’ve since read that that was Staley’s deliberate intention. Staley was willing to sacrifice pressure in order to contain the edges and minimize Wentz’s scrambling. Not to mention better run D both inside and outside.
Staley, it appears, had a ton of confidence in his secondary and therefore chose to implement this strategy against the Eagles. We may see this again in some form against other run threat QB’s down the road. And there will be no shortage of those, huh?
The other thing is, honestly, a C for our ST was being kind. I’ll just leave it at that.
