This is an excerpt from her recent article.... She thinks the Rams only need to keep five receivers because they’re possibly going to keep four tight ends
They need an extra blocking tight end because their offensive line doesn’t look great so far, and at minimum they are keeping three running backs, and maybe even four, depending on how long it takes Darrell Henderson to return from his hamstring injury.
I think the reason the OL has struggled is because they haven't finished sorting the starters yet. At least that's my hope.
Also I figured they'd keep 4 TEs anyway, because Hopkins was a futures pick to replace Everett. They're locked in there IMO.
Here's the locks as I see them from both position groups...
TE: Higs > Everett > Mundt > Hopkins. Some may argue Hop but I consider him a lock because the Rams see big upside with him and as noted above.
WR: Kupp > Woody > Jefferson > Reynolds.
Basically there isn't a lot of wiggle room. Web is probably the odds-on favorite not to mention with the disadvantage for the young guys coming in as rooks with this abbreviated schedule. So one could argue that 5 WR spots are locked up. But either way we're talking [Jackson / Edwards / Koski / Winston] competing for 1 spot (whether it's 1 or 2 depends on how that WR stacks vs the RB depth guys).
The RBs look like Brown > Akers > Hendy > Jones > Kelly. From what I've heard at least.
Comparing the RBs vs the WR group it's basically JONES vs JACKSON/EDWARDS/ETC. Because, again, I don't see Hopkins being up for cut discussion. So for me that's the battle. And if I had to guess who wins that based on college film and what we've heard so far I'd go with Jones. So IMO Jourdan is likely correct.
