To be fair to Blythe...

Two things, really.

1. He played through an ankle and two bad shoulders last year on an OL that was forced to churn in rookies on the fly. I don’t know which is more stunning, tbh. To play on an NFL OL with TWO bad shoulders simultaneously? Gawd! They put him in there because they had no one else. That demands courage and determination of the highest order, if you ask me. Everybody knows about the damaged shoulders, both of which required offseason surgery, but I wonder if what was asked of him is truly understood?

2. Center is his best position. I’d like to see what a healthy Blythe can do at C with a decent OG on either side of him. I think he’s definitely earned a one year prove it opportunity.

Honestly, I have more reservations about Boom at LG than of Blythe at C.

If Blythe thrives at C then we can extend him. If he struggles there then we can let him walk and draft/FA a new starting C (assuming that Allen isn’t the answer, either). Either way it’s a win-win, right?
