So many differences of opinion that I wouldn’t know where to start.
Yeah, hindsight tells us where the Rams made mistakes, especially with a couple of contracts, but I could point to other smart decisions, too.
Short version:
Great draft
Great coordinators hired.
Rams bit the bullets and traded Cooks and released Gurley. Pain in the short term but gain in the long term.
In short, I think that the Rams ‘20 future looks very bright. I think that they could well reclaim the division championship.
One thing the author got right, though. The OL play is crucial to team success. If the Rams got the OL decisions right then they’re in business. As in Top 5 O business. But if they muffed it, then it’s gonna be a long season. No in-between for this OL, I’m afraid.
The question then becomes, what does it mean to get the OL right? Is it enough that it be solid? Top half of the league? Or does it have to be top 10? (The OL not the offense as a whole.)
My own answer is that it just has to be solid.
Last year (as we know) it started out shaky and then was decent down the stretch in the last 5 games, though not completely consistent. So better than that, but it doesn't have to rival the absolute best OLs.
