The teams have to absorb a huge salary plus the picks.
It is true that the picks are overvalued. Most of the picks taken doesn't come close to the value of the player, but the other factor since there is a salary cap is what other players could you keep instead of the big salary player.
Players like Kupp are so special; it is worth it, because he has the "IT" factor with a tons of intangibles. Somebody like Kevin Carter who was a poison at the end may not be worth it.
