Littleton one of the best ILB in football
N Robbie Coleman- The best slot corner in football
Dante Fowler - An ascending DE who in a full season with the Rams last produced 11.5 sacks and the light bulb coming on at 25
Mathews was great in the games he played not sure why he’s being run down. Had he not gotten hurt he appeared to be well on his way to double digit sacks
Rams traded Marcus Peters who went to Baltimore and had a pro bowl season
Ramsey takes the sting out of that a bit
If the Rams had the salary cap room the likely keep both Fowler and Littleton for sure
1. Littleton had his good qualities, but he also had his weaknesses. I think that his salary was just too hard to fit under the Rams cap, plus I suspect that Staley preferred other strengths in his ILB players. Not the least of which was run D. Let’s don’t pretend that allowing Littleton to walk was akin to the London Fletcher fiasco. Littleton’s loss will not be felt as if he were in a Luke Kuechly or Bobby Wagner type status.
2. NRC? What can I say? Good player with lots of experience. Salary cap move, pure and simple. But, it’s not as if they had no one to put in there, you know? Burgess, Long, or Williams. Pick one.
3. We all liked Fowler, but he was a cap hit that was unaffordable. Just the way it is, man. We’re gonna see a lot more of these every year, I’m afraid. BTW, it’s not as if Fowler was an All Pro, either. He was streaky, had difficulties dropping, and I suspect that many of his plays were while riding on AD’s coattails.
4. Matthews had lost his fastball, actually becoming a liability in run D. Matthews often got his sacks when QB’s were flushed right into him. I call his signing an experiment that didn’t work out all that well. One of the 4-5 candidates behind him will surely be able to more than replace the ‘19 version of Matthews.
5. I really don’t know why you listed Peters, tbh. Seems like Ramsey over Peters for the Wade/Staley D is a no brainer. Peters was a square peg in a round hole fit for the Rams.Ramsey does way more than taking the sting out of the Peters trade.
Other than these 5 points, I completely agree with your above post. Lol.
