“But I think Sean’s mentioned it, we’ve been drafting young players for the last two, three years."
Yes, but they've been mid round selections for the most part. Very few premium picks have been spent on the position. Hard to find elite players drafting that way. A QB-starved team would probably not claim to have addressed their QB need because they drafted a couple of mid-round prospects. I like Snead a lot and have few complaints about his approach, but I think he undervalues the O line.
You don't need to spend premium picks to build a solid OL.
Look at Kromer's history. In 2009, the Saints went to the superbowl with a Kromer coached OL. His starting unit that year consisted of 1 2nd round pick, 2 4th round picks, and 2 5th round picks. Or look at the 99 Rams. Yes they had Pace but before the 99 season they let a 1st rounder and a 2nd rounder walk (Gandy and Wiegert) and replaced them with a UDFA who had played in Canada a bit after college (Nutten) and a 5th rounder (Miller). Their center was a UDFA who had been cut by Dallas (Gruttadauria). Timmerman was a big deal free agent but originally he was a 7th round pick in Green Bay.
Either way right now the Rams OL has 3 2nd rounders (Whitworth, Hav, Corbett). And one of their promising young guys, Edwards, was ranked before the season as 1st or 2nd rounder--he fell because he played injured in 2018.
