If the Rams picked Jones with one of their early picks, many posters here would be doing cartwheels. But since they didn't pick him, those same posters say "what are we gonna do with that guy?"
I get it, everyone wants to be an optimist about their team, but I prefer some reality with my apple pie.
There were plenty of people saying prior to the draft that we shouldn't be drafting an OT. So I doubt there would be many posters doing cartwheels. There would be those who rally around the pick as usual and there would be many who think Jones was not a need and a waste especially if he can't play guard.
Unfortunately, with the OL the reality is they've been investing in it for the past few years and now it's time to see whether that pays dividends or not. Right or wrong, they've chosen to believe that their young talent will continue to develop. If they're right, everyone will be happy; if they're wrong the team will suffer the consequences and heads will roll.
They seem to be allowing at least 2 years and maybe 3 for this development. There are upsides and downsides to the approach. One downside in moving on from a player too quickly is they could get caught up in drafting the same positions every year.
