From Rich Hammond--
I understand the sentiment about drafting O-line, but the Rams have eight, count them, eight offensive linemen on the roster — Whitworth, Noteboom, Corbett, Blythe, Allen, Edwards, Evans, Havenstein — who likely would be ahead of anyone they drafted this year.
I was first in line last year to say the Rams handled their O-line poorly. But I really don't think the answer is to rebuild it with rookies...again. If the guys they have don't improve/develop, the Rams are in trouble. This is short, and sweet (sour?,) and portends to the upcoming (hopeful, still) season.
Hammond notes they did use draft capital, a trade, and resignings to date. 8 guys and a number of others deeper on the roster with seasoning, as well.
One thing that tends to be also remarked on is the "stability" within the 5 offensive linemen and the results on the scoreboard.
The Rams enjoyed no major injuries in 2018, and made it to the Superbowl.
Last year, we suffered setbacks injury wise, and the lack of continuity must have hurt. To my eye, the lack of push inside the tackles by Todd was hard to not note, but the wide swaths that 2018s group also seem to be missing. The last game at the Coliseum was full of disastrous run snaps. Like appalling. If that is what I'm looking forward too in 2020? It's going to be harsh?
But.......I'm good with their approach as of now. If the guys on the roster aren't developing then no rookie was going to solve it. No 2 rookies were going to solve it.
