He tested out of the gym at the combine. He is literally 1 of 2 guys at 6'-4" and 235 lbs to run a sub 4.45 40. The other was Megatron. The problem I have with this, is it was the combine. I use the combine as a tool to aid my evaluation, not as a replacement for game action. So in a deep class he is a 3rd rounder.
The day before he ran there where several experts wondering out loud if a switch to TE was in his future. Including me. I even posted it in Alyo's wr pre-combine post.
The reason why was simple, he just doesn't play that fast. He has good speed, but not 4.45 speed. He has a bit of a hard time gaining separation. He won't gain separation with crisp route running do to his size either. He can win deep if given the time and he will win tons of contested balls due to his size, length and hand strength. He will be a monster in the redzone and 50-50 balls anywhere really.
I still like him in the 3rd, and I could see why the Rams would be interested. I just like the Jefferson fit a tad more.
