This article is bad. From reading it the premise( I think) is that because the acquiring team gave up draft picks they are forced?, more than a team with a team drafted player, to sign them to a contract. And that contract will be for a higher amount than a team that is resigning a player they drafted.
So many holes here. The Rams can let Ramsey walk. The Rams can franchise him. The Rams can sign him. The Rams can trade him. All the option are available. The only difference is in how the player was acquired--2 first round picks +, versus standard drafting. Comparing Ramsey to Donald I see zero difference beyond the cost of acquisition.
Were the Patriots less forced to sign Brady because he was a late round pick? Am I misreading this article? His argument, as I comprehend it, is bad bordering on ridiculous.
