Everything isn't boom or bust. Life is a series of shades of grey.
It just galls me to read some of the posts around here of the same people who a year or so ago put McVay and Snead in the Hall of Fame but today wonder if they're fit for their jobs.
I admit. I spoke loud and clear that at the time it happened that signing Gurley to the big deal was the wrong move. RBs simply should not be given big 2nd contracts because most never live up to it for a variety of reasons. That said, I wonder how many would have howled about the cheap Rams if they didn't give him the big bucks? Or, if the same season result had happened without him as it did with him, the accusation would have been that if we had Gurley we would have been in the Superbowl hunt.
The Gurley thing is what it is. Move on. The Rams wisely did. Vinny B says it well. This is the NFL. Stuff happens. In the end it's how you react to it. The only real move they had was to let him go. Or..... they could have played the same 2019 song all over again in 2020. In case no one noticed....... McVay and Snead did. They were not satisfied with 2019. They cleaned the coaching house, released guys they think they can replace, and are somewhat retooling to do better in 2020. Football isn't a house you build and live in it for 20 years. It is evolution at Warp speed.
If being right every time is the goal, become a journalist. Then all you have to do is criticize every move, and in hindsight praise or gut the guy who has to make decisions on the fly having no idea of the future.
