Peters was gone anyway, they weren't going to pay him regardless if Wade stayed or not....he's a system corner who really only plays zone. I like Peters, one of my favorite players, but I don't want to see him play man or try to be our top corner. He doesn't allow for you to play defense the way Ramsey did.
Who says they weren't gonna pay him regardless?
If Wade is not going to stay who says they have to play a man system? Nothing says they had to be locked into man. If the new DC played a zone system then Peters would have been excellent.
The point is, shouldn't you determine who the DC will be and what your system is going to be before you make a major personnel change?
Like I said, I like Peters but Ramsey is the better player....no one in their right mind would take Peters over Ramsey.
Remember, they dumped Peters before they even had Ramsey....they wanted to get something before they got nothing from him by letting him walk.
Donald on Ramsey
“It was like he was there for a year or two already,” Donald said of how Ramsey fit in the defense, on ESPN’s Golic and Wingo. “He’s one heck of a football player. He’s one of the best at what he does at his position. Adding him to the mix with the players that we’ve got, it was definitely a plus for us. We lost two good corners – that was hurting, we were worried about that – but we brought another good one in, so the things you’re able to do with him and the way we use him to help us as far as pass rushers. He can lock up one side of the field and guard the best wide receivers on the field. So when you’ve got a guy like that, he tends to help the defensive line make some plays, too. Adding him to the mix was a big plus for us.”
Peters doesn't effect the defense the way Ramsey can.
Agree to disagree, but I'll take Ramsey over two lottery tickets every day.....
We can agree to disagree that's fine.
You're saying things that I don't dispute. Like most would choose Ramsey over Peters. Ok fine...
On this particular decision, it seems like a bad thought process to me. Instead of assuming he's going to walk, why not extend him at $14M like the Ravens did and hire a DC that could actually make a zone scheme work.
And then keep your 2 1st round picks!
I know McVay was already thinking of moving on from Wade at that point so you have a blank slate on who your DC is and the scheme.
As for getting something before he walked, the comp pick would be better than what they got. It's baffling to me!
We'll definitely have to disagree. This is one of the few Rams decisions that I just can't get behind. Most others I understand...
Read the Fangio style defense thread I just posted.... Peters wasn't going to be a fit...they went out and got the best corner in the game for the Fangio style defense
I honestly think McVay has had his eye on switching to this style of defense for awhile now.
