I remember that at one time he was one of the top-rated tackles in the NFL, which really surprised me.

Then last year he really fell off. Possibly related to playing through injury?

I remember we gave him a healthy, but not bank-breaking, contract which surprised me a bit at the time. Then the following year he looked great and looked like we had locked him up cheap. Then with his play last year he looked overpaid.

Hopefully Kromer and co know exactly what caused his struggles and will make the right choice. I would hate to trade or cut him and have him become a OL standout for someone else for 10 years.

Basically Hav got a standard issue 2nd contract for a right OT at about the amount you would expect for the year he signed. Top ROTs like Lane Johnson get more than the position avg. amount.

It was deceptive when Hav was rated highly because what was rated high was his run blocking. He was always rated lower for his pass blocking.

Some guys who saw him in camp say he was not in the same shape and didn't look good at that point already.
