Honestly, far as I can tell, very few if any of us are knowledgable enough - about football, in general, of the Rams' behind-the-scenes, in particular - to assess how best to proceed.

I think those of you who criticize the "culture" are almost surely off-base. The culture that McVay established help get this team to 24-8 and a SB appearance over his first two years. Maybe it showed cracks under the duress of some bad losses and/or more volatile personalities than it could absorb. Or not.

McVay needs an OC? Maybe. Kromer needs to just focus on OL? Maybe. The game has passed Wade by? Maybe. I think these are all arguments by inference: things didn't turn out as expected and hoped; let's change a bunch of stuff. I'm somewhat sympathetic to getting a new DC simply because I think his defense has generally underperformed given its talent level over the last three years. But even that's a thin reed on which to make such an important decision. The Rams' didn't give up two backbreaking 3rd-and-16s because of Wade's schemes.

To me, in re what we can see and reasonably judge for ourselves? My priorities are all about personnel. W/the cap, draft, current depth, schematic fit, etc., all being part of the calculation in all cases.

1. Revitalize run game. Priority #1, IMO. Starts with the OL of, obviously, there's LOTTA moving pieces here. We all agree with that; we don't agree on Gurley. IMO, the Gurley we saw this year is at best an average runner. If that's the guy coming back next year, my question is: Can Henderson be the guy? (Unfortunately, seems that TGIII gets awfully sulky if he's not the clearcut #1.)

2. Replenish DL & edge rushers. If Matthews and/or Fowler go they'll take a lot of sacks and pressures with them. (I personally keep Littleton over Fowler.) Brockers is solid and seems to be the locker room leader you want. That's a lot to replace with a tight cap.

3. Kicking game. Johnny H had a down year for him, but his avg net was still 5th in the league among regular punters. And, of course, his fake-punt threat helps keep the defense honest. AND he's actually damn good holding on the FG attempts. Very much a keeper. The Leg, OTOH, missed a lot of very makable field goals this year. And injuries might be becoming a thing. He also hit a 58-yarder, second longest in the league this year,

I don't agree with every word but I especially like the bit I red-bolded.
