I think we all probably expected 70-83 catches, 1,000 yards and 10TDs. Certainly not one touchdown in 16 games. Anyway, I never liked the signing because he is too small. He can't make contested catches , and when he tries, he gets knocked out.
I didn't expect that. I don't know why anyone would. He was a deep threat who would NEVER be taken by a team to serve as the dominant go-to WR. He's a well-rounded enough deep threat so that he is far from a one-trick pony, and has value as that.
And he could NEVER make contested catches, so you don't set him up to have to try. That's like saying why isn't Jerome Bettis as fast as Dickerson or as shifty as Faulk. Well okay he isn't. So you use him to do what he CAN do.
It's amazing that almost 3 years after signing him and some people are just now discovering that you do not use Brandin Cooks as a consistently physical, contested catches, go to guy.
He was never that. That was apparent from the get-go. So you use him to do what he does--he plays his role. That bolsters the offense as a whole, when it's clicking.
